Job summary

Shooting Star Childrens Hospices is looking for a compassionate physiotherapist to work with children and young people who have life-limiting conditions or disabilities. You will join the Physiotherapy Team across Christophers, Shooting Star House and the community.

In this role you will deliver land-based and hydrotherapy sessions, support families and carers, collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, maintain accurate records and help maximise comfort, mobility and physical wellbeing for

• Hydrotherapy or aquatic therapy experience would be beneficial, training can be provided.

Job description

The role requires experience of working with children and young people with disabilities, complex needs or life-limiting conditions within a healthcare, therapy, education or care setting. You will be passionate about promoting health, wellbeing and enjoyment for children and families, and confident supporting physical activity, movement and therapy programmes. Your key purpose will be to support the delivery of physiotherapy interventions for children and young people with life-limiting conditions, helping to maximise their comfort, mobility and physical wellbeing. Working as part of the Physiotherapy Team, you will deliver delegated land-based and hydrotherapy programmes, providing safe, effective and person-centred support to children and families. This is a varied and rewarding role, supporting children and young people staying at Christophers for respite and end-of-life care, as well as those attending outpatient hydrotherapy sessions. You will assist with individual and group sessions, including family-focused activities, working closely with colleagues across the hospice and in the community to support the physical, social and emotional wellbeing of children and their families. You will also support the use of specialist equipment, maintain accurate records and contribute to a holistic approach to care. The role is based across Christophers, Shooting Star House and the community, with some evening and weekend working required as part of the service. The Physiotherapy Team provides land based and pool-based sessions to children and young people staying at Christophers for respite and end of life care. We provide outpatient hydrotherapy sessions for children, young people and their families, including bereaved families. The Physiotherapy Team enjoy leading baby swim groups and a Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy hydrotherapy group, allowing families to spend time together. Our hydrotherapy pool at Shooting Star house is currently undergoing refurbishment and we are looking forward to developing more group sessions and siblings day swims when the pool is ready. In this role you will work closely with teams in the hospice and out in the community. Physiotherapy is one of our Psychosocial Teams, who support the physical, social and emotional wellbeing of children and their families.

You will have experience working as part of a multidisciplinary team, excellent communication skills, including with children and young people who have additional communication needs, and a good understanding of safeguarding and health and safety. Experience of hydrotherapy or aquatic therapy would be beneficial, although training can be provided. Above all, you will be committed to delivering compassionate, person-centred support and improving outcomes for children and families.

• Experience of aquatic therapy would be useful, although training will be given.
