Introduction

We have an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated Physiotherapist to join our Integrated Community Stroke Therapy Team, based at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary/Furness General Hospital, working across both inpatient and community settings. This advert is for a 12-month fixed-term position.

Team and context

Our Stroke Therapy Team operates within a culture of a strong, supportive multi-disciplinary team which consists of Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Speech and Language Therapists as well as Assistant Practitioners. We promote an inter-disciplinary approach to working when supporting patients to set and work towards meeting person-centred goals, helping to enable positive rehabilitation outcomes and facilitate timely discharge from hospital.

Our Stroke Therapy Team are committed to facilitating an environment which promotes professional development and engagement with research opportunities both in house and in collaboration with local universities. There is encouragement given to engage with regular clinical and managerial supervision, to help promote personal professional development and an interdisciplinary approach is taken with the facilitation of clinical supervision for our Assistant Practitioners.

Main duties of the job

You will join our interdisciplinary Stroke Therapy team and develop your clinical knowledge and skills. You will primarily work in an acute hospital, based at the RIL. However, there may be opportunities to gain experience across our community pathway too.

Staff develop their knowledge and skills using our appraisal process and we actively support staff through supervision with in-service training opportunities and a peer support group.

Requirements:

  • Diploma or Degree in Physiotherapy approved by the Chartered Association of Physiotherapists
  • Registration with HCPC as a Physiotherapist
  • The ability to travel between sites and in the community

About us

We operate from three main hospitals: Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services. WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses. All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

Qualifications
  • Health and Care Professions Council registered Physiotherapist
  • Honours Degree or equivalent in Physiotherapy approved by the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy/Health and Care Professions Council
  • Evidence of relevant post graduate specialist clinical education
  • Member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy
Experience
  • Comprehensive rotational experience as a Staff grade in the core competencies within physiotherapy (e.g., elderly care, musculoskeletal, neurology, orthopaedics and cardio-respiratory care)
  • Evidence of effective written and oral communication skills in English in a variety of settings
  • Experience of working within a team
  • Previous experience of working in a relevant clinical area
Skills, ability and knowledge
  • Evidence of commitment, motivation and adaptability
  • Ability to think quickly, assess clinical situations and make decisions based on information
  • Knowledge of team/group dynamics and the role of a Specialist Physiotherapist within a team

Salary: £31,049 to £37,796 per year, pro rata
