This is a 12-month fixed-term contract role as a Physiotherapist covering maternity leave at the Avonfield Neurological Centre in Knuston, Northamptonshire. The successful candidate will be responsible for devising, developing, delivering, and updating individualized rehabilitation and/or therapy/support plans for service users with complex neurological conditions and symptoms. They will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide high-quality clinical care and implement evidence-based practice.

Main duties of the job

As a Physiotherapist, you will be responsible for assessing, planning, and implementing patient rehabilitation care in collaboration with qualified staff. You will provide professional leadership in all aspects of Physiotherapy, work as part of the multidisciplinary Neuro care team, and be accountable for physiotherapy assessments and treatment of highly complex neurological conditions. You will also be responsible for selecting and applying standardized and non-standardized assessment tools, participating in clinical audits, and identifying and sourcing specialist equipment for service users.

As a Physiotherapist, you are responsible for devising, developing, delivering and updating individualised rehabilitation and/or therapy/support plans with peer support and supervision. You will be required to provide support, guidance and training to therapy and care assistants.

You will provide ongoing treatment, monitoring and support to service users' physical needs which will see you identify and source specialist equipment and advise on mobility and use of equipment.

With a strong emphasis on teamwork, you’ll receive support from a regional network of healthcare professionals and enjoy access to a variety of training courses to support you reach your career goals.

As a Physiotherapist you will be:

  • Supporting and assisting qualified staff in the assessment, planning and implementation of patient rehabilitation care.
  • Responsible for the delivery of Physiotherapy services to residents, in liaison with the Head of Therapies.
  • Providing professional leadership in all aspects of Physiotherapy following the principles of clinical governance and in accordance with the code of professional conduct as required by the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy.
  • Working as a member of the multidisciplinary Neuro care team.
  • Responsible and accountable for physiotherapy assessments and treatment of highly complex neurological conditions.
  • Implementing and evaluating individual treatment and rehabilitation plans liaising with other relevant agencies as appropriate.
  • Utilising effective clinical reasoning skills and evidenced based practice to develop individualised care plans.
  • Delivering a high standard of clinical care and maintain service delivery at St Neots Hospital by flexible, effective and efficient prioritisation based on clinical judgement.
  • Selecting and applying standardised and non-standardised Physiotherapy and other professional assessment tools to ensure effective treatment.
  • Participating in collecting and analysing clinical audit data and use of relevant outcome measures.
  • Carrying out clinical risk assessment and complete risk management plans.
  • Identifying and sourcing specialist equipment for all residents with complex physical needs that require use of non-standard items.

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • To be a registered member of the HCPC

Avonfield is a 19-bed specialised neurological centre situated within tranquil grounds in the village of Knuston, Northamptonshire. The aim of the service is to offer assessment, treatment, and active rehabilitation programmes to maximise autonomy and independence. The team work to reduce the impacts of neuro-disability associated with the neurological condition or acquired brain injury.

We are committed to providing the highest standard of neurological care and rehabilitation for a wide range of neurological conditions and symptoms. We work closely with the person’s family and care team and recognise this is central to a long lasting and successful rehabilitation. Some people we care for may also have co-morbid complex physical health needs and/or mental health problems. The service model has been developed to support people who, because of their acquired brain injury or neurological condition, have complex behaviours including verbal or physical aggression, agitation or disinhibition requiring a neurobehavioural approach.
