Overview

We are growing our team! Spencer Private Hospitals (SPH) are looking for a HCPC registered Chartered Physiotherapist to join the team. The role is a 1 year fixed term with the possibility of extending.

The successful candidate will work at QEQM Margate with occasional work at Kent and Canterbury and William Harvey Hospital, handling a caseload of pre- and post-operative orthopaedic inpatients and post-operative follow-up outpatients. The role involves working mainly with the support of the physiotherapy team and wider MDT, with occasional unsupervised on-site work supported by the MDT. Clinical support, supervision, development and ongoing upskilling are provided as part of the physiotherapy department based at QEQM Spencer Margate. The role requires a physiotherapist who is comfortable with orthopedic surgical cases and MSK outpatients and familiar with a range of surgical procedures (including but not limited to general surgical, orthopedic, gynaecology, urology, ENT and colorectal post-operative patients). An enthusiastic, flexible physiotherapist with access to their own vehicle is required.

Main duties

To work across the Spencer Private Hospital (SPH) sites as a physiotherapist responsible for providing a high standard of assessment, diagnosis, evaluation, treatment and advice to patients within inpatient and outpatient physiotherapy services.

Job responsibilities

KEY RELATIONSHIPS

  • Line Manager is the Clinical Specialist Orthopaedic/MSK Physiotherapist
  • Work in close relationship with the Physiotherapy Team
  • Work in close relationship with Bookings, Nursing Staff, General Practitioners (GP), Consultants and other Allied Health Professionals (AHP)

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Clinical

  • Undertake comprehensive assessment and diagnose patients with complex conditions, using well-developed clinical reasoning. This includes handling potentially sensitive information with patients.
  • Work as an autonomous practitioner, managing own caseload without direct supervision.
  • Evaluate clinical practice through reflection, audit and outcome measures to continually improve physiotherapy services and promote evidence-based practice.
  • Maintain patient documentation and records to reflect care and meet professional standards and hospital policies.
  • Work as an autonomous professional in line with CSP rules and HCPC registration.
  • Ensure patient understanding and consent for treatment, with negotiation and motivation as needed.
  • Provide clear written information and home exercise programmes for patients.
  • Review and adapt treatment plans based on progress to achieve goals.
  • Plan and undertake discharge of patients and send discharge reports to GPs and Consultants.
  • Identify inappropriate referrals and refer on as required.
  • Produce timely and accurate patient records and reports in accordance with HCPC and CSP regulations.

Financial

  • Ensure patients are seen within allocated time and treatment units are recorded.
  • Utilise department resources, equipment and appliances efficiently and economically.

Business Development

  • Actively participate in physiotherapy marketing strategy and in the advertisement of new equipment and services.
  • Participate in implementing changes to grow departmental and business activities.
  • Contribute to service development and change through liaison with the Clinical Specialist Orthopaedic/MSK Physiotherapist.

Quality

  • Engage in service improvement initiatives, including planned research and audit.
  • Participate in performance development discussions with the line manager and set development goals.
  • Assist in planning and delivering departmental training and education for staff development.
  • Develop specialist clinical skills through practice in a range of settings and personal development.
  • Identify gaps to service and participate in forward planning and inpatient weekend rota.
  • Ensure safety of equipment; perform monthly equipment checks and/or teach competency to staff in using equipment.

Infection Control

  • Complete mandatory infection prevention and control training and adhere to policies.
  • Keep the workplace clean and report infection risks as appropriate.

Health and Safety

  • Co-operate with management under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and maintain safe practices.
  • Ensure health and safety audits are carried out and actions completed; manage equipment safety and maintenance.
  • Commit to SPH environmental targets and sustainability policies.

Workforce

  • Work as part of the multidisciplinary team to provide high standard care and ensure continuity of therapy on transfer or discharge.
  • Maintain effective communication with patients and MDT; complete accurate clinical records in line with CSP and HCPC codes.
  • Assist the senior physiotherapist with coordination of inpatient and outpatient services.
  • Communicate complex information clearly to all stakeholders.

Technology and Administrative

Use computer software to input and analyse data and to support audit tools and incident reporting.

Contract and Location

Fixed-term contract. £16.33 to £19.87 per hour dependent on experience and qualifications. Working pattern: Full-time, Part-time, Flexible working, Annualised hours.
