Job summary

Job overview

We're looking for a motivated and compassionate Physiotherapist to join our experienced and highly valued North Lincolnshire Community Learning Disability Team. This is a unique opportunity to develop specialist skills while working alongside an established multidisciplinary team that is passionate about improving the health and wellbeing of adults with learning disabilities.

Based at Barnard Court Health Centre, Brigg, you'll manage a varied and rewarding caseload, providing person-centred physiotherapy interventions to adults with a wide range of physical, neurological and complex health needs. The role offers the chance to develop expertise within focused clinical pathways and work creatively with individuals, families, carers and partner agencies to achieve meaningful outcomes.

You will deliver weekly hydrotherapy sessions, alongside developing skills in areas such as postural management, falls prevention, rehabilitation, respiratory care and specialist equipment provision.

Main duties of the job

Main Duties of the Job

To provide a comprehensive physiotherapy service to meet the needs of adults with learning disabilities in North Lincolnshire, dealing with both routine and complex cases that have profound disabilities/multi-morbidity and/or challenging behaviour.

To manage a defined caseload of adult service users, using person-centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions through the promotion and implementation of evidence-based practice.

To undertake necessary day to day clinical responsibilities for the Learning Disability Service relating to physiotherapy.

Qualifications
  • Degree in Physiotherapy or equivalent
  • HPC registration
  • Membership of a professional body
  • Master’s degree in Physiotherapy
Knowledge/Experience
  • Work with multi-disciplinary team members
  • Management of own caseload
  • Documented evidence of continual professional development.
  • Experience/awareness of working with people with complex physical and/or learning disabilities or other relevant transferrable experience
  • An understanding of team dynamics
  • Broad knowledge and experience of physiotherapy (respiratory, neurology, Musculo skeletal) across a range of specialities
  • An awareness of current Health and Social Care developments
  • An understanding of Valuing People and other relevant health and social services legislation e.g. MenHealth Act 1983, Mental Capacity Act 2005, Human Rights Act 1998, Safeguarding
  • Knowledge of daily living and manual handling equipment
  • An awareness of diverse cultures
  • A clear understanding of the concept of confidentiality
  • Evidence of continued personal and professional development
  • Knowledge of caseload management
  • Knowledge of working within robust risk management frameworks to assess and manage clinical risk safely and effectively.
  • Manual Handling training
  • Post-graduate experience as a physiotherapist in a range of clinical areas.
  • Knowledge and experience of rebound therapy.
  • Knowledge and experience of hydrotherapy
  • Knowledge of respiratory management.
  • Knowledge of specialist equipment
  • Work with adults with complex behaviours and/or experience working with people with a learning disability
  • Supervision of support staff/students
  • Experience of working in a community and inpatient setting

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to assess, plan intervention and evaluation for client with a learning disability/cognitive impairment
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to adapt skills to ensure effective communication face to face, on the telephone and in writing.
