Qualifications

  • Current valid license or eligibility for licensure as a Physician Assistant in Massachusetts.
  • Graduate of an accredited PA program recognized by ARC-PA or equivalent.
  • ACLS and PALS certification strongly preferred.

Job description

Chelsea Urgent Care Unit Chief, under the oversight of the Director of Primary Care Advanced Practice Providers (APP), seeks a Physician Assistant (PA) to care for pediatric and adult patients seeking same-day care. The PA will diagnose and treat a range of conditions, including infectious illnesses, orthopedic issues, lacerations, pregnancy-related concerns, and other medical emergencies.

The PA collaborates with a team of physicians (MDs), nurse practitioners (NPs), registered nurses (RNs), licensed practical nurses (LPNs), medical assistants (MAs), and administrative staff. The PA will also facilitate medical emergency responses when necessary.

Clinical Responsibilities
  1. Acquire detailed, accurate health histories and perform comprehensive evaluations.
  2. Order vital diagnostic tests and consultations; perform procedures within demonstrated competency and scope of practice.
  3. Conduct diagnostic tests such as imaging and laboratory tests as indicated.
  4. Prescribe medications within scope of practice as needed.
  5. Perform or assist in procedures including phlebotomy, splinting, joint dislocation relocation, laceration repairs, abscess drainage, nail trephination, urethral catheter insertion, removal of foreign bodies, and nasal packing, credentialed accordingly.
  6. Document patient notes comprehensively using the EHR system and discuss patient care with attending clinicians as needed.
  7. Identify system-wide factors affecting clinical outcomes and operations.
Departmental Responsibilities
  1. Participate in staff meetings and training sessions.
  2. Support research efforts to advance knowledge and promote evidence-based practice.
  3. Serve as a role model for team members.
Professional Responsibilities
  1. Seek physician consultation for clinical issues and supervisory guidance as needed.
  2. Maintain professional growth and required credentials.
  3. Apply evidence-based guidelines to practice and stay updated with current healthcare practices.
  4. Perform additional duties as assigned.
Working Conditions
  • May involve lifting heavy objects and patients, exposure to infectious materials, needles, sharp instruments, monitoring devices, and equipment.
  • Prolonged standing and walking between patient care areas are expected.
  • Shift work may include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
