Job summary

The University Health Services in Norfolk, VA seeks a clinically skilled Physician to deliver primary care to a diverse student population across two clinic locations. The role includes medical supervision of mid-level providers and coverage for the Medical Director when needed.

The successful candidate will contribute to quality improvement initiatives and collaborate with campus departments to support student wellness programs.

Qualifications

• Licensed to practice or eligible for Virginia licensure; current DEA license.
• Board certification in primary specialty (Family/Internal/Emergency Medicine).
• MD or DO from an accredited medical school.
• Some experience as a primary care physician in outpatient settings.

Responsibilities

• Provide primary health care services for students across two clinic locations.

Job Description

The Physician role provides primary health care services for ODU students through Student Health Services’ two clinic locations in Norfolk, Virginia. The Physician serves a diverse student population including undergraduate, graduate and medical students. The role provides medical consultation and supervision of mid-level providers in the Student Health clinics and covers for the Medical Director in their absence, including supervision of clinical supervisor and laboratory supervisor. The Physician contributes to quality improvement studies, clinic operations, and the student community through participation in department and university programs and activities.

Minimum Qualifications

• Knowledge of the role of as a physician in an ambulatory care setting. Considerable interpersonal skills as well as excellent verbal/written skills. Considerable ability to interact positively with a diverse student population. Considerable ability to interact positively with nurse practitioners/physician assistants, athletic training staff, and counseling staff.
• Licensed to practice or eligible for licensure as a physician in the state of Virginia; Current DEA license; Satisfactory Review by the National Practitioner Databank.
• Board certified in the physician's primary specialty (e.g., Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, or Emergency Medicine) and Medical Degree may be MD or DO from an accredited medical school.
• Some experience as a primary care physician in an outpatient setting.
