Responsibilities

  • Ensure analytical and proficiency standards are maintained.

Skills

Good knowledge and appreciation of science

Education

Are you an experienced and dynamic Physical Testing Technicianlooking for your next position?

We are currently seeking a Physical Testing Technician to join our team at the National Laboratory, Waterhouses, Staffordshire. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the analysis of Cement, Lime, Ash, GGBS, Concrete, and Mortar, using a variety of testing techniques. As part of our National Laboratory team, you will support technical enquiries and ensure all analysis is conducted in line with statutory legislation and our internal Quality, Safety, Health, and Environmental Standards.

Main responsibilities

The Physical Testing Technicianworks as part of the National Laboratory team ensuring compliance with all relevant statutory legislation and the internal company Quality, Safety, Health and Environmental Standards.

Key responsibilities of this role include:

  • Ensure analytical and proficiency standards are maintained
  • Working within the laboratory team for the investigation of technical problems related to the use of Tarmac products
  • Assist in Sample Reception, as required
  • Assist in the maintenance of UKAS accreditation and implementation of Quality Management Systems
  • A pro-active approach towards Health and Safety and to maintaining a safe working environment
  • Become a fully integrated member of the team, developing the competence to perform all chemical tests and calibrations carried out by the department

The ideal candidate

The successful candidate in the role of Physical Testing Technician will be able to work as an individual and as part of a dynamic team, with a willingness towards learning in order to meet current and future business needs.

You should demonstrate the ability to be flexible and self-motivated and possess a positive attitude in your approach to work. We are also looking for a commitment to continuous improvement and self-development, with an ability to manage your time and priorities in an effective and efficient manner.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5 GCSE's of Grade C or above (preferred subjects: Maths, English, Science)
  • A' levels.
  • City & Guilds or higher qualification in a relevant subject.

Advantageous Experience:

  • Good knowledge and appreciation of science
  • Knowledge of cement manufacturing and / or cementitious products
  • Previous laboratory experience
  • Calibration of lab equipment
  • Working knowledge of ISO 9001 & ISO 17025

The role is based in our National Laboratory inin Waterhouses, Staffordshire. The site is easily accessible from Leek, Ashbourne, Derby, Burton Upon Trent, Stafford, Buxton, Macclesfield and the surrounding areas.
