Overview
We are looking for a Physical Health Nurse (RGN) with a passion for delivering outstanding care. You will be working 15 hours a week (Monday to Friday, between 9am and 5pm) at Cygnet Hospital Harrow, our Acute Inpatient Mental Health and Autism service. Cygnet Hospital Harrow provides a recovery focused service treating a wide range of mental health problems. We also offer specialist diagnostic, assessment and inpatient services for individuals with mental health needs and who also have a dual diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder. Our acute in-patient psychiatric services offer assessment, diagnosis and treatment for individuals with a wide range of psychological and emotional problems, including those who are detained under the Mental Health Act. Cygnet Hospital Harrow has a "Good" overall CQC rating and fantastic travel links to Central London. We also host a yearly Staff Award ceremony, which is a black tie event held at Harrow School.
Responsibilities
- Closely monitor patient health issues such as obesity, hypertension, diabetes, epilepsy, asthma, COPD, minor injuries and illnesses.
- Carry out ECGs.
- Carry out Metabolic Syndrome monitoring.
- Co-ordinate with GP surgery for routine reviews: cervical smear screening, breast cancer screening, annual chronic health review, etc.
- Liaise with relevant health professionals e.g. dietician, optician, chiropodist, continence nurse, dentist, Tissue viability nurse, Continence team, Community diabetes specialist team, etc.
- Liaise with pharmacist and contribute to medicines management committee.
- Support mental health nursing staff in managing minor injuries and wound care management.
- Maintain accurate, detailed reports and records.
- Consult and coordinate with Multidisciplinary team members to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care.
- Promote physical health and well being to the service users.
- Train staff to perform observation of vitals, perform read ECG, venepuncture.
- Provide health clinic sessions for the service users.
Qualifications
- Essential: Practise Nurse or RGN with experience of working in a GP surgery.
- The ability to maintain documentation, undertake audits & demonstrate integrity in your role.
- A good understanding of the latest nursing practices.
- A commitment to patient recovery in order to effectively monitor, manage & reduce risk.
- Compassion, resilience & a dedication to empower & support service user independence.
