Job summary

Lyles Sutherland is hiring a mid‑level PHP developer to join our Edinburgh team. You will work on our cloud SaaS platform, focusing on PHP, MySQL and REST APIs to deliver reliable features and integrations.

You will collaborate with Product Managers and QA, contribute to planning and solution design, and take ownership from development through testing and release in a hybrid, Edinburgh-based office environment with strong support for learning and growth.

Qualifications

  • We require around 3+ years of commercial software development experience or equivalent.
  • We need strong experience with PHP and MySQL.
  • We need experience with Laravel, Symfony, or another modern PHP framework.
  • We require understanding of OOP and software design principles.
  • We expect Git usage and collaborative workflows.
  • We require experience developing or integrating REST APIs.
  • We value automated testing, ideally PHPUnit or similar.
  • We expect familiarity with the software development lifecycle from requirements to release.

Responsibilities

  • We develop and maintain functionality within our SaaS platform.
  • We work primarily with PHP, MySQL and JavaScript-based technologies.
  • We develop and integrate with REST APIs and third-party services.
  • Investigate and resolve defects and production issues.
  • Contribute to modernisation of our application and framework.
  • We collaborate closely with developers, Product Managers and QA.
  • We contribute to planning, technical discussions and solution design.
  • We take ownership from development through testing and release.
  • We raise technical risks early and communicate blockers.
  • We help the squad deliver high-quality software predictably and sustainably.
  • We write clear, maintainable and tested code.
  • We participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback.
  • We apply sound software engineering principles and address technical debt.
  • We learn from experienced engineers and share knowledge with the team.

Requirements
