Job summary

Currys plc is seeking an Engineering Lead to own engineering standards and delivery across our PHP-based Online & Mobile platforms. This hands-on leadership role requires technical depth in PHP, strong governance with external partners, and the ability to drive quality and observability from day one.

The role focuses on platform stability, CI/CD improvements, and building in-house capability while working with senior stakeholders to translate requirements into pragmatic engineering outcomes.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of senior engineering experience, including time operating at Engineering Lead level in a multi-team or multi‑partner environment.
• Proven experience governing and assuring large‑scale, full stack web applications - the current estate is primarily PHP.
• Experience stabilising, enhancing and maintaining large‑scale, customer‑facing web applications.
• Demonstrable experience building resilient, scalable, production‑grade applications.
• Strong knowledge of CI/CD practices, pipeline ownership, environment management and release governance.

Responsibilities

• Own and enforce engineering standards across delivery partners and internal teams, covering code quality, patterns, security and maintainability.
• Lead code reviews across the PHP estate and set technical direction for the portfolio.
• Define and document engineering principles for Online & Mobile to ensure consistent application across teams.
