PHP Developer

Hybrid – Outside IR35

We’re looking for a hands-on PHP Developerto support ongoing development within our clients portal and to assist with systems decommissioning as part of wider integration work. This is a full stack role, covering both front-end and back-end, requiring someone who is comfortable working with core PHP in environments that don’t always have neat documentation.

You’ll be joining a small, dedicated team during a period of transition, so we need someone who can hit the ground running, pick up brownfield projects quickly, and focus on business outcomes as much as code quality.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain PHP applications (PHP 7 & 8) within predominantly custom frameworks.

• Upgrade an existing project from Zend (now Laminas) to a newer version.

• Support the decommissioning of legacy systems alongside ongoing business change.

• Work across the stack: PHP, MySQL 8, HTML, JavaScript, CSS.

• Investigate and resolve issues where the in-house team are focused on BAU commitments.

• Collaborate with stakeholders to understand business needs and translate them into solutions.

What We’re Looking For

• Strong background in core PHP development

• Experience with brownfield projects, including systems with limited or no documentation.

• Practical knowledge of MySQL 8 and HTML, CSS, JavaScript.

• Ability to understand user and business needs, not just technical requirements.

• Problem-solvers who can work independently, manage ambiguity, and deliver value quickly.
