Job description

We build websites and software without page builders, and we keep them running for a long time. Some of the code you will work on has been in production for over a decade and still earns its keep. Some of it you will write this month and someone will maintain in 2036. Both deserve the same care.

The work ranges from client websites with bookings, quotes and portals, through our own dealer management system for car dealers, to CRMs and integrations written for one business. PHP 8, MySQL, Apache, Docker and plain JavaScript, with a pre-commit hook that runs the linter and a checker for silent failures.

What you will be doing

• Build and maintain PHP 8 applications and websites with MySQL behind them.
• Integrate third-party APIs: payment providers, vehicle data feeds, CRMs, telephony.
• Write the error path with the happy path. A call that can fail is checked.
• Review colleagues' code and have yours reviewed.
• Fix production problems from the log, reproduce them, and make sure they stay fixed.

What you will need

• At least five years of commercial work in this field that you can show us. We promise clients that everyone on their project has that, so it is not negotiable.
• Modern PHP you have shipped and supported, with or without a framework.
• SQL you write yourself, with an eye on the query plan.
• Git in daily use, and a view on what makes a commit readable.
• The patience to read old code before changing it.

Useful, not required

• Laravel or Symfony, alongside plain PHP.
• Docker, Linux and the basics of running what you build.
