Job summary

INTEC SELECT LIMITED in Basingstoke is seeking a backend PHP developer to design, build and maintain scalable systems using Laravel and CakePHP. You will deliver features end-to-end, implement APIs, and contribute to testing, CI/CD, and code reviews.

The role is hybrid with one day onsite per week and a salary of £40,000–£55,000 per year. Ideal candidates have 3+ years of PHP experience and strong MySQL skills.

Qualifications

• 3+ years’ commercial experience in PHP development.
• Experience with PHP 7.4 (CakePHP) and PHP 8+ (Laravel/Symfony).
• Experience building backend systems and APIs.
• Strong knowledge of MySQL, including queries and performance optimisation.
• Working knowledge of JavaScript (ES6+), HTML5, and CSS.
• Experience with Git, branching workflows, and pull requests.
• Familiarity with Docker and Linux/WSL environments.
• Experience with unit testing and automated testing practices.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain backend systems using PHP (Laravel/CakePHP).
• Deliver features end-to-end, including development, testing, and deployment.
• Enhance existing applications, including legacy CakePHP systems.
• Build and maintain APIs and backend services.
• Write clean, maintainable code following development standards and best practices.
• Contribute to code reviews, automated testing, and CI/CD processes.
• Support system design, integrations, and technical improvements.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies and collaborate with wider technology teams.
• Identify opportunities to improve performance, scalability, and reduce technical debt.
