Job description

Phonics Intervention Teaching Assistant – Northfield, Birmingham
Start Date: ASAP
Daily Rate: £90 – £100 per day
Contract Type: Full-time, Term Time Only

Elevate Supply is working closely with a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Northfield, seeking a Phonics Intervention Teaching Assistant to join their KS1 team. This is a full-time role starting immediately, ideal for someone confident delivering early reading support and small group phonics interventions.

The Role
You will work alongside the class teacher and literacy lead to support children in KS1, particularly those requiring additional input in early reading and phonics. You’ll run targeted groups and 1:1 sessions using schemes such as Read Write Inc. or Letters and Sounds (experience with either is desirable, but not essential).

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver structured phonics sessions to small groups and individual pupils
  • Support children in developing early reading and writing confidence
  • Track pupil progress and report back to teaching staff
  • Work closely with the class teacher and literacy lead to adapt support

What We’re Looking For

  • Knowledge of phonics schemes (Read Write Inc., Little Wandle, Letters and Sounds)
  • Strong communication skills and a patient, nurturing approach
  • A willingness to work closely with pupils needing extra support
  • A proactive attitude and ability to work as part of a team
