Coventry and Warwickshire Pathology Services provides phlebotomy services at 6 main sites, including University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust in Coventry and Rugby, City of Coventry Health Centre, George Eliot Hospital in Nuneaton, and South Warwick Foundation Trust in Warwick. The service also supports Community Clinics, GP Clinics, and Domiciliary services across Coventry, Warwickshire, Leicestershire, and Birmingham.

Role Overview: Perform phlebotomy and support team staff to ensure optimal patient care. Deputise for the Phlebotomy supervisor when necessary and carry out duties assigned by the phlebotomy manager. We seek enthusiastic individuals who can bring innovative ideas to our busy department. A full UK driving license and car are required for site transportation, with a main base site to be identified.

Position: Phlebotomy Team Leader at GEH Hospital. The role involves expanding access to inpatient and outpatient services, including shift work covering early, late, weekend, and Bank Holiday shifts.

Responsibilities:

  1. Collect blood samples from inpatients, outpatients, clinics, GP surgeries, and homes, working with all age groups.
  2. Conduct competency assessments for venipuncture on new staff.
  3. Serve as a health and safety point of contact, supporting regular safety meetings in the absence of the supervisor.
  4. Monitor and record staff leave and absences.
  5. Ensure mandatory training completion.
  6. Support the department's health and safety initiatives and participate in relevant meetings.
  7. Assist in staff rota compilation and support less experienced staff.
  8. Manage sample tracking and recording for audits.
  9. Oversee consumable stock levels.
  10. Support the provision of a 7-day service, promoting high-quality patient care.
  11. Adhere to health and safety policies to protect staff and patients.
  12. Perform reception duties, welcoming and advising patients and staff.
  13. Undertake duties as prescribed by the Network Phlebotomy Manager.
