Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Community Phlebotomy Manager Band 6 within NELFT.

We are seeking a leader to manage and develop the phlebotomy service across clinic-based and domiciliary settings in Basildon, Brentwood, and Thurrock, while promoting patient-focused, high-quality service delivery.

Responsibilities
  • Provide overall day-to-day management and running of the phlebotomy service, both clinic-based and domiciliary, and develop/transform the service as required.
  • Deliver a client-focused service that promotes good customer service and effective working relationships.
  • Work with line managers and stakeholders to ensure targets are reached; monitor progress of investment projects and provide updates/reports as necessary.
  • Provide line management to direct supports and be responsible for leadership and management of the phlebotomy service across South West Essex.
  • Support peers to be effective team members while working on own initiative; foster collaborative working with other health and social care professionals and agencies.
  • Lead service development/transformation, including new opportunities for investment and quality improvement projects; report regularly to the Operational Lead on compliance/non-compliance of standards.
  • Ensure safe staffing levels via health rostering, leave and attendance management; monitor waits and delays and report issues to the Operational Lead.
  • Manage recruitment, selection, retention, induction of permanent and temporary staff, and the phlebotomy budget within the financial envelope; obtain quotes for equipment and approve purchases and invoices.
  • Represent phlebotomy services at relevant meetings; provide advice/information, and lead on service development and transformation in line with new initiatives locally, across the MSECC, and nationally.
  • Maintain organisational knowledge of Trust protocols and procedures; ensure accurate records for audit purposes; support risk management at team level (accident/incident reporting, risk assessment, and updating the Trust risk register).
  • Demonstrate professional curiosity and act on findings; manage business continuity and effectiveness of services.
  • Lead the phlebotomy service in alignment with Trust values and participate in ongoing collaboration with colleagues, patients, and carers.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • Experience in phlebotomy service management and team leadership.
  • Ability to develop and implement service improvements and manage budgets and resources.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills; commitment to collaborative working with health and social care professionals.
  • Understanding of risk management, audit requirements, and HR processes related to healthcare teams.
  • Appointment will be subject to the Trust’s induction, probationary period, and adherence to policies; High Cost Area Supplement applies where eligible.
