Job description

The Phlebotomy and Cannulation Technician will work as part of a team to provide high-quality, safe services for patients. The post holder will support managing waiting times in Outpatients and activity on the Wards.

Part-time position: 22.5 hours, Mon-Fri per week

The post involves performing phlebotomy and cannulation duties across the Trust, in accordance with policies and procedures. Collaboration with healthcare professionals is essential to ensure smooth patient discharge processes and high patient satisfaction.

Key requirements include the ability to work independently within a team, handling patient interactions professionally, confidentially, and sensitively.

We are seeking candidates to join the West Middlesex site.

  • Ensure high-quality, appropriate phlebotomy and cannulation care in all responsible areas.
  • Communicate effectively and sensitively with patients before, during, and after procedures.
  • Collect blood samples safely following established protocols.
  • Label and dispatch specimens accurately to laboratories.
  • Complete requisitions accurately and package specimens properly for transport.
  • Perform cannulation and blood collection from inpatients and outpatients efficiently.
  • Respond promptly to calls for cannulation services.
  • Document all procedures as required.
  • Deliver urgent specimens to laboratories personally when necessary.
  • Be aware of patients’ bloodletting needs.
  • Seek medical or nursing assistance if a patient's condition deteriorates during procedures.
  • Maintain daily workload records and retrieve information from electronic health systems as needed.
  • Uphold patient dignity and respect, adhering to the Trust’s Policies and Philosophy of Care.
