Job Summary

Are you enthusiastic, reliable and experienced in venepuncture? If so, we may have the right opportunities waiting for you within our Phlebotomy Service. We are looking for individuals who are enthusiastic and reliable to join our busy phlebotomy departments across hospital sites and in the community. As a motivated individual, you will demonstrate excellent communication skills along with basic IT skills, both essential for this role.

The main duties include collecting blood samples from adults and children using various techniques, in inpatient, outpatient, home, and community settings. Training opportunities for using hand-held analysers for near patient testing are also available.

Main Duties
  • Perform venepuncture and capillary sampling procedures.
  • Collect blood samples suitable for testing, ensuring minimal discomfort.
  • Work in hospital wards, clinics, community settings, and patients' homes.
  • Work as part of a team, supporting biomedical, scientific, and medical staff.
  • Communicate effectively with patients of all ages and backgrounds.
  • Ensure the safe transport of specimens to laboratories.
  • Maintain cleanliness and stock levels in work areas.
Person Specification
Qualifications
  • Educational standards equivalent to NVQ Level 3 or similar.
  • Willingness to undertake further training.
Skills and Behaviours
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Availability to work weekends and bank holidays.
Experience
  • Experience with technical procedures and maintaining a safe environment.
  • Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, First Aid, and CPR.
Other Criteria
  • Physically able to assist with moderate loads.
  • Good hand-eye coordination.
