1 x Full-time 37.5 hour position (Permanent)

An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic person with a caring and friendly nature to join the Phlebotomy Team at The Princess Royal Hospital, Telford, Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, CDC Telford, and Whitchurch Community Hospital. The role involves working on Wards and in the community.

This is a Trainee Phlebotomist position. Full and extensive departmental training will be provided to the successful candidate.

We are recruiting for a full-time role, working Monday to Friday, 7.5 hours per day, with weekends and bank holidays on a rota basis. Time off will be given when on weekend duty.

The successful candidate should have excellent communication skills, be able to work under pressure, have an approachable nature, be able to fulfill travel requirements, and record data accurately. Shifts will vary according to service needs, so flexibility is important.

The successful applicant will be part of a team providing a phlebotomy service to The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust.

Key duties include:

• Collection of blood samples by venepuncture from adults in general practice, ward, and outpatient settings.
• Collection of blood samples by venepuncture from children aged 12 months and over in outpatient or children’s clinics.
• Recording and labeling of samples.
• Delivery of samples to the laboratory by hand, hospital vacuum air tube system, portering staff, or transport systems.

Currently, we have 40 Phlebotomists across 4 sites, providing a safe booking system at The Princess Royal Hospital, Telford (PRH), The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital (RSH), Community Diagnostics Centre (CDC), and Whitchurch Community Hospital.

We serve inpatients (PRH/RSH) and outpatients at all sites, supporting both GPs and consultants.
