Job summary

Buxted Medical Centre in East Sussex is looking for a Phlebotomist to join the primary care team. You will take blood from registered patients by venepuncture under the Lead Nurse, label and transport samples and work closely with the nursing and wider practice team.

You will need a relevant venepuncture qualification, a good general education, and be prepared to evidence training when requested. DBS check and occupational health requirements apply, with opportunities for training and

Qualifications

• Phlebotomist qualification required and evidence of it when requested.
• Good standard of general education.
• Evidence of relevant training or qualifications when requested.

Responsibilities

• Perform venepuncture safely and in line with practice protocols.
• Obtain patient consent before taking blood samples.
• Ensure samples are correctly labelled, packed, stored and sent to the laboratory promptly.
• Maintain accurate patient records on the clinical IT system and specimen log.
• Liaise with NHS Trust laboratory staff and work with the nursing team, seeking guidance when needed.
• Act as a chaperone when required.
• Support infection prevention and control, including clinical waste removal and sharps bin replacement.
• Follow safeguarding, clinical governance, confidentiality and information governance requirements.
• Support the administrative and wider practice team as needed.
• Complete opening and closing procedures in line with the duty rota.
• Take part in audits, quality improvement and shared learning.
• Complete mandatory training, induction and annual appraisal.
