Responsibilities

  • Obtain blood samples by performing venipunctures, finger sticks, and heel sticks on any age level. Use aseptic techniques and follow established procedures.
  • Enter all patient information into the correct hospital system, verifying patient demographics, updating and verifying all patient insurance, and administering ABN's as needed.
  • Organize and distribute workload in phlebotomy, including routine, time-specific, or stat orders, to ensure timely results to providers.
  • Order tests in the computer system and contact physicians if questions arise regarding test requests.
  • File/Scan scripts and insurance information, and prepare reports for delivery to doctors' offices as needed.
  • Prepare samples for courier pickup and deliver samples to the appropriate department to ensure specimen integrity.
  • Maintain inventory of supplies needed to provide continuous service, minimizing downtime.
  • Clean and maintain phlebotomy work areas and carts following established procedures.
  • Assist with training new employees.
  • Perform phlebotomy responsibilities at assigned locations as determined by the manager to meet department needs.
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications and Specifications

A high school diploma and at least six months of job-related experience or equivalent are required. All employees hired during or after 2012 must have Phlebotomy certification.
