Job description

Our ideal candidate will have experience in primary care and phlebotomy work, but training will be provided. There must be a willingness to play a leading role in developing patient-centred services. You will be an enthusiastic, committed individual expected to work as part of the practice team with good communication and interpersonal skills.

Main duties of the job

The post holder works under indirect supervision of the practice nurse team leader and undertakes tasks and duties delegated by the practice nurse team leader or a suitably qualified regulated professional. They will collaborate with the general practice team to meet patient needs, following policies and procedures. Supervision can also be provided by the HCA team as deemed appropriate.

Qualifications
  • Basic literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Basic computer experience.
  • Willingness to undertake an NVQ or an equivalent qualification.
  • Undertake Care Certificate.
Experience
  • Customer care experience or experience of being a carer.
  • Competent in basic healthcare duties required for the post.
  • Primary care experience is desirable but not essential.
  • Experience with computer software.
Knowledge and Skills
  • Manual dexterity and manipulation skills.
  • Fitness to perform manual handling tasks within policy guidelines.
  • Basic understanding of patient needs and the role of a phlebotomist.
  • Willingness to develop clinical skills and competencies, e.g., phlebotomy skills.
  • Effective communication skills, including tact and persuasion, especially where barriers to understanding exist.
  • Ability to communicate effectively via telephone or group discussions.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Participation in equipment care.
  • Stock control responsibilities.
  • Hepatitis B immunity or willingness to undergo immunisation.
  • Understanding of accountability issues.
  • Knowledge of data protection, patient confidentiality, clinical and information governance, and Caldicott principles.
