Job summary

Redwell Medical Centre is recruiting a part-time phlebotomist to join the treatment area team for 25 hours per week. Shifts are Monday to Friday, starting between 8:30 and 9:00, with possible overtime to cover leave and sickness.

The role involves venipuncture for adults and children, sample labelling and storage, and liaison with NHS staff. Candidates must have venepuncture competence and experience in a hospital, GP practice, urgent care centre or phlebotomy unit.

Responsibilities

• Perform venepuncture on adults and children as requested by the clinical team, hospitals or other services
• Obtain patient consent for blood sample collection
• Label, package and store samples correctly, ready for collection
• Keep the specimen log accurate and resolve discrepancies
• Maintain patient records on the clinical IT system
• Send samples to the laboratory promptly and liaise with NHS Trust laboratory staff
• Support the wider nursing and clinical team, seeking guidance on patient matters
• Act as chaperone when required
• Remove clinical waste and replace sharps bins under the IPC policy
• Follow national and local protocols and safeguarding policies for adults and children
• Support the administrative team when required
• Undertake mandatory training and induction, and keep the working area clean
