We are recruiting for a Phlebotomist to join us as a member of the Integrated Community Nursing Team on the Isle of Wight, working under the direction and supervision of the District Nurse Team Leader in facilitating the delivery of an effective, efficient and quality service, ensuring good customer practice at all times in line with the Trust's Vision and Values. We are looking for someone who can provide a high quality phlebotomy service for housebound patients in the community on the Isle of Wight by obtaining blood samples from patients through Venepuncture and ensuring that blood samples are labelled correctly in preparation for being forwarded to laboratories. This post will be required to work across all localities on the Isle of Wight as required. Main duties of the job The Community Phlebotomist has the following key elements in their role:
- To take blood samples from veins by use of evacuated blood collection systems.
- Or via safety-Lok blood collection set (butterfly) having undertaken the prescribed training and development relating to the collection of blood from venous sites, and to be able to complete such blood collection unsupervised.
- To undertake delegated administration activities to support the Integrated Community Nursing Team.
- Aim to promote community care delivered at home, thus preventing unnecessary admissions to hospital and reduction in length of hospital in-patient stays.
