Market Surgery are delighted to be recruiting a phlebotomist to join our large friendly Nursing team. The Phlebotomist is an integral member of the patientservice: He/she will be responsible for safely and efficiently performingvenepuncture on patients requiring blood tests. To contribute to the efficientperformance of the clinical team in the provision of services to patients, inaccordance with local and Trust policies.

Undertake the venepuncture procedure effectively andsensitively with respect for the patients welfare, dignity and preferences toa standard fit for laboratory analysis, ensuring minimum distress or discomfortto the patient. Obtain an accurate volume of blood to chemical ratios. Utilisationof appropriate blood bottles dependent upon tests required ensuring allnecessary bloods are requested and sampled. Confident in the use andapplication of IT systems. Good keyboard skills as interaction with aelectronic patient record system (SystmOne and ICE) is used to access, view andprint patient blood test requests is required. Obtain patients lawful consent toperform an invasive procedure. Maintain Health, Safety and wellbeing ofyourself and others. To achieve a high standard of practice using competencieswithin Phlebotomy. The safe and appropriate use and disposal of equipment andsharps. To liaise and communicate with doctors, nurses and other ward staff. Give patients, guardians and carersappropriate advice regarding the availability of test results. Clean andmaintain workstations following venepuncture and comply with Infection Controland Health & Safety policies. Carry out regular stock checks and stockrotation within phlebotomy clinical work areas.

To liaise and communicatewith doctors, nurses and other ward staff. To provide workload statistics andwork towards target ranges on a day-to-day basis. Communicate information topatients of all ages, genders, sexual orientation, cultures or physicalabilities in a none-discriminatory or judgmental manner, be able to overcomebarriers of communication within these areas with appropriate support. Give patients,guardians and carers appropriate advice regarding the availability of testresults. Clean and maintain workstations following venepuncture and comply withInfection Control and Health & Safety policies. Carry out regular stockchecks and stock rotation within phlebotomy clinical work areas. Undertake anyother duty which is deemed appropriate when requested by Senior Staff The aboveindicates the main duties of the post which may be reviewed in the light ofexperience and developments within the service. Any review will be undertakenin conjunction with the post-holder.
