We are looking for a full-time, hard-working, highly motivated, and experienced Phlebotomist to work at Milton Keynes Renal Unit. Milton Keynes Renal Unit is a Satellite Unit of Oxford Kidney Unit and provides an Outpatient Service of Haemodialysis, Peritoneal Dialysis, and Renal Clinics for patients in Milton Keynes and some parts of Buckinghamshire.

Main duties of the job

  • To take venous bloods safely from patients on the outpatient Clinic and dialysis unit if needed.
  • To check the identity of the patient, ensure that any special instructions have been followed (e.g., period of fasting) and to gain patients' consent to proceed.
  • To take venous blood of good quality using aseptic techniques and ensuring minimum pain and discomfort to the patient.
  • To make sure samples arrive at the labs safely.
  • To work within a team and also lone working.
  • To work using the EPR system and ICE.
  • To work in an efficient manner to ensure the phlebotomy work is completed in the best practical time.
  • To obtain and keep up to date with all learning.
  • To ensure that safe working practices are maintained in the interests of both staff and patients according to Trust and Departmental policies.
  • To co-operate with strategies to reduce cross infection.
  • To make judgements regarding the viability of taking blood.

Person Specification

  • Experience as a Phlebotomist, Certificate should be presented, very good communication skills, worked in a private or NHS setting, has very good computer skills.
  • Flexible, adaptable, hardworking, good organisational skills.
