Job summary

The University of Bath invites applications for a Bath Engineering & Design Studentship focused on robust control of magnetically levitated wind turbines. The project combines dynamic modelling with advanced control design to stabilise rotors and suppress vibration in a low-carbon energy setting.

Applicants should hold an UK Honours degree (1st or 2.1) or international equivalent; a Master’s degree is advantageous. English language requirements apply for non-UK applicants before the deadline.

Qualifications

  • Applicants from Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Mechatronics, Control Engineering or other relevant engineering disciplines are encouraged to apply.
  • Experience with mathematical modelling and system simulation is advantageous.
  • UK Honours degree 1st or 2.1, or international equivalent; master's degree beneficial.
  • Non-UK applicants must meet English language requirements before the deadline.

Responsibilities

  • Develop mathematical models describing dynamic behaviour of magnetic levitation systems.
  • Design control strategies for rotor stabilisation, vibration attenuation and disturbance rejection.
  • Investigate nonlinear effects and robust control methods for uncertain operating conditions.
  • Validate concepts on prototype systems and contribute to experimental work.
