Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented PhD researcher to join our dynamic gas trading team. As a PhD researcher, you will contribute to cutting-edge research on the pricing, risk management, and financial dynamics of gas energy markets, with a focus on the evolving landscape of trading strategies and market behaviours.

Key Responsibilities include:

  1. Conduct original and high-quality research in the field of gas energy commodities, focusing on market modelling, pricing strategies, and risk management techniques.
  2. Analyse market data, including spot and futures prices, trading volumes, supply-demand dynamics, and geopolitical factors that impact the natural gas market.
  3. Develop advanced quantitative models and simulation tools to support research into financial trading strategies for gas commodities.
  4. Investigate the impact of regulatory changes, market liberalization, and technological advancements on gas energy markets and trading practices.
  5. Stay up-to-date with developments in energy economics, financial markets, and commodity trading techniques to ensure research relevance and innovation.

Qualifications

  1. Recently graduated or graduating PhD in a relevant field such as Energy Economics, Financial Engineering, Quantitative Finance, Economics, or related disciplines.
  2. Strong background in financial modelling, econometrics, and/or quantitative analysis applied to commodity markets, particularly gas energy markets.
  3. Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, MATLAB, GAMS or similar tools used for data analysis, modelling, and simulation.
  4. Understanding of financial markets.
  5. Experience with statistical analysis, time series modelling, and machine learning techniques applied to market data.
  6. Familiarity with gas supply chains, infrastructure, and the factors that influence energy pricing and trading strategies.
  7. Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
  8. Knowledge of gas and/or LNG economics.

Preferred Skills:

  1. Knowledge of energy trading platforms.
  2. Experience in research collaboration with industry partners or regulatory bodies.
  3. Previous work or internship experience in energy markets, financial trading, or related areas.
