University of Nottingham invites applications for a PhD project titled Modelling Resilience of Water Distribution Networks. The aim is to develop a modelling approach and supporting software to assess resilience of water networks against failures, aging and threats.

The project will identify critical links, predict KPI outcomes, and explore optimal resource allocation to enhance network robustness. Open to UK/EU/overseas students; closing date 28 December 2026.

Competenze

• Starting October 2027, we require an enthusiastic graduate with a 1st class degree in engineering, maths or a relevant discipline, preferably at Masters level (in exceptional circumstances a 2:1 degree can be considered).

Mansioni

• Develop a modelling approach for assessing water network resilience.
• Create a mathematical model and supporting research software to predict key performance indicators of a water network under partial or full failures.
• Identify critical links and propose optimal resource allocation to improve robustness against threats such as aging infrastructure, climate change, and deliberate acts.
