Job summary

Alignerr is seeking a PhD-level Applied Physicist to stress-test cutting-edge AI models for physical reasoning. The role focuses on crafting open-ended physics problems and precise solutions to reveal gaps in models’ understanding of fundamental laws.

You will audit AI reasoning, refine model behavior on topics from classical mechanics to quantum physics, and document failure modes. This is a fully remote hourly contract with flexible hours.

Qualifications

• PhD in Applied Physics, Physics or closely related field.
• Strong command of classical mechanics, electrodynamics, statistical mechanics and quantum mechanics.
• Excellent ability to communicate complex physics clearly in English.

Responsibilities

• Design PhD-level physics problems with multi-step reasoning and derivations.
• Author precise, step-by-step golden solutions with correct constants and units.
• Audit AI reasoning for physical consistency and first-principles compliance.
• Provide feedback to refine physics-informed model behavior.
• Document failure modes across quantum mechanics and thermodynamics.
