University of Oxford invites applications for a 3.5-year D.Phil. studentship in Sustainable and Circular AI Systems.

The project will explore how rapid AI growth can be supported by more sustainable hardware and infrastructure, linking AI performance to material supply chains. You will join the Circular Economy and Sustainability Lab, work on the Circular Electricals and Electronics Project, and develop scenarios for UK AI computing demand while considering lifetime extension, reuse, repair and

Competenze

• First class or strong upper second-class honours degree in Engineering or related field.
• Strong skills in quantitative modelling and analysis of engineering or technology systems.
• Excellent English written and spoken communication.
• Desirable: experience in Life Cycle Assessment or Material Flow Analysis.
• Desirable: knowledge of circular economy strategies and sustainable engineering.
• Desirable: familiarity with computing hardware, data centres or AI infrastructure.
• Desirable: experience contributing to academic research projects and collaboration with industry.
