Job Overview

Are you a passionate pharmacy technician looking for a new challenge? We have an exciting opportunity for a driven Pharmacy Technician to join the team at the Royal Gwent Hospital (RGH), within a split role between clinical patient services and procurement. The individual should be conscientious, adaptable and have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with an ability to multitask and work across several sections. Candidates would ideally have previous experience of providing a medicines management service to a clinical area and hold an accredited checking technician qualification.

You will work full time (37.5 hours per week) covering duties within the pharmacy procurement and medicines management services. No prior procurement experience is required as full training will be provided, giving you broad exposure to hospital pharmacy and providing the skills and experience to develop your career further.

Main duties of the job

  1. To carry out the accurate dispensing and distribution of pharmaceuticals to patients, wards, departments, hospitals, and clinics served by ABUHB.
  2. To undertake accuracy checking of prescriptions/patient profiles that have been dispensed by other pharmacy staff in line with local Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  3. To assist in delivering the day-to-day management of medicines procurement within a framework of legal, professional, departmental, and health Board financial policies and procedures.
  4. To provide a ward-based medicines management service as part of the pharmacy team.
  5. To provide advice to patients/carers on pharmaceutical matters.
  6. To train and supervise less experienced technicians, trainees, and support staff.
  7. To use the pharmacy and other computer systems in order to carry out all tasks in an accurate and efficient manner.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

  • Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council
  • Accredited Checking Technician
  • Medicines Management Qualification including Drug history taking/medicines reconciliation
  • Evidence of Continuing Educational and Personal development
