A healthcare provider in London is seeking a Pharmacy Technician to manage dispensary operations and assist in medicine management. The role involves providing accurate dispensing services, maintaining safety protocols, and participating in staff training. Candidates should have knowledge of the Misuse of Drugs Act and be skilled in communication to handle requests from healthcare professionals. Management and Organisation: Participate in the efficient day-to-day running of the dispensary. Provide medicine management and assist in maintaining correct Controlled Drug records in accordance with the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of developments in local/national guidance to deliver high-quality services to the Prison. Under supervision, provide timely stock topping up to the wings, ensuring stock levels are appropriate. Ensure medicines are supplied and replenished to emergency cupboards, offering advice to healthcare professionals as needed. Check emergency bags and maintain audit records. Work towards completing the accredited checking technicians course after gaining sufficient experience, with periodic re-assessment every 2 years.
Dispensary Responsibilities: Work with a team to provide accurate dispensing services. Maintain a clean environment, assist in developing and reviewing Standard Operating Procedures, and manage computer files for prisoner information and dispensary operations. Ensure safety and security, transporting pharmaceuticals securely within the prison.
Clinical: Process all dispensed medicines according to standards. Enter patient details into the computerized system, ensuring accurate and complete drug histories. Provide medicines management services to each Wing, including prescription checks and stock management.
Research & Audit: Assist in workload data collection and analysis. Help identify service development areas.
Education and Training: Participate in training development for staff, supporting policy implementation and clinical guidelines.
Communication: Handle requests from GPs, courts, police, and clinics, balancing information sharing with confidentiality. Advise patients on medication issues, adjusting communication as needed.
Financial: Support the Pharmacy Manager in maintaining budgets and identifying potential savings.
Prison Environment Responsibilities: Familiarize with prison standards and ensure security requirements are met. Interact daily with prisoners, many with mental health and substance misuse issues.
