Working across our Hospital Group, you will be based at Aintree University Hospital or the Royal Liverpool Hospital & Broadgreen Pharmacy Departments.

What You'll Do:

  • Support Pharmacists in the preparation, dispensing, and distribution of medications.
  • Ensure accurate and timely medication delivery to wards and departments.
  • Maintain records, manage stock levels, and uphold strict regulatory compliance.
  • Participate in medication reconciliation and assist in clinical pharmacy services.

What We're Looking For:

  • NVQ Level 3 in Pharmacy Services. Students due to qualify this summer are welcome to apply.
  • Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
  • Previous hospital experience preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail, communication skills, and a commitment to patient safety.

Main duties of the job

With the support of the Senior Technicians in our dispensaries, you will coordinate a team to ensure safe and efficient workflow.

You will need excellent organisational skills to undertake this role. You must work accurately, have a good eye for detail, and be able to prioritise your workload, meet deadlines, and deliver high standards in a patient-focused service.

You will be expected to share your skills and knowledge to train pharmacy assistants, trainee pharmacists, and pharmacy technicians.

This is a full-time (37.5 hours) position based at LUHFT sites. The Pharmacy Department operates a 7-day service. The successful candidate will participate in weekend, late-night, and bank holiday rotas.

Job responsibilities

  1. Dispense prescriptions, including extemporaneous prescriptions, unlicensed drugs, controlled drugs, inpatient and outpatient prescriptions, following safe systems of work.
  2. Participate in daily stock checks, adjust stock levels per procedures, and escalate discrepancies.
  3. Manage stock to follows processes; process dispensing and liaise with stores for ordering and stock management.
  4. Coordinate dispensing teams to ensure efficient workflow and prioritise critical medicines.
  5. Accuracy check assembled items like cardiac arrest boxes and controlled drugs after departmental training.
  6. Participate in staff rotation within pharmacy departments, including aseptic and outpatient areas.
  7. Follow Good Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Practice guidelines and assist in compliance.
  8. Undertake aseptic dispensing, including cytotoxic reconstitution, following standards and regulations.
  9. Provide ward-based drug supply services under supervision.
  10. Maintain stock levels and ensure proper storage and stock turnover.
  11. Keep accurate records of controlled drugs, supplies, and audits.
  12. Respond to routine and technical queries from staff and refer complex issues appropriately.
  13. Collaborate with pharmacy and ward staff to ensure optimal patient care.
  14. Provide patient counselling and drug therapy instructions professionally.
  15. Dispense clinical trial medications following protocols and guidelines.
  16. Mentor and train student technicians, pre-registration pharmacists, and others.
  17. Participate in stock audits and computerised stock control systems.
  18. Contribute to pharmacy objectives related to clinical governance, patient safety, and standards compliance.
  19. Engage in Continuing Professional Development to maintain current knowledge.
  20. Observe health and safety and data protection regulations.
  21. Perform any other relevant duties as required.
