Qualifications

Job Summary

Are you a passionate and motivated Pharmacy Technician? Are you dedicated to improving patient care by supporting research?

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and well-motivated Pharmacy Technician to join the Tees Valley Research Alliance dedicated pharmacy clinical trials team at University Hospitals Tees.

Cross-site working between South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust is expected as part of this role. You will work under the management of the Lead Pharmacy Technician with oversight from the Lead Pharmacists.

Pharmacy plays a vital role in clinical research to safeguard participants, healthcare professionals, and the Trust by ensuring that clinical trial material and Investigational Medicinal Products (IMPs) are appropriate for use and are procured, handled, stored, and used safely and correctly.

You will have a varied role which will include clinical trial set-up, maintenance and close-down activities, writing and reviewing standard operating procedures, dispensing clinical trials prescriptions, ordering, receipt and accountability of clinical trial stock, monitoring of storage areas, and administrative work. You will be required to communicate with a wide range of professionals via telephone, email, and face-to-face.

The successful candidate will work 8:30-17:00 and will be based at The James Cook University Hospital Monday to Wednesday and at North Tees University Hospital Thursday to Friday.

Main Duties of the Job

Participate in the delivery of clinical trial services provided to wards and departments by the dedicated Tees Valley Research Alliance Pharmacy Clinical Trials team. The post holder will provide support to the Specialist Lead Pharmacist, Lead Pharmacist, and Highly Specialised Lead Pharmacy Technician, to deliver an effective and efficient pharmaceutical clinical trials service.

The postholder will participate in the delivery of pharmacy clinical trial services, ensuring that services are provided in accordance with relevant professional, ethical, legal, and locally agreed policies, procedures, guidelines, and standards.

Be a key member of the pharmacy team, making major contributions to the development and delivery of pharmacy clinical trials and research and development strategies and the implementation of development plans for pharmacy operational services.

Participate in the training and development of other groups of staff providing delivery of clinical research. Provide professional and managerial advice to these staff when necessary. Utilise opportunities for the personal development of staff where possible, in line with operational service requirements.
