Job summary

University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust is seeking a dedicated Pharmacy Technician to join their team on a flexible bank contract. The successful candidate will contribute to the pharmacy operations by dispensing medication, managing stock, and providing patient care, all within a supportive and inclusive environment. This role requires specific qualifications and experience in pharmacy, and offers a competitive salary based on pro-rated hours.

Qualifications

  • NVQ level 3 in Pharmaceutical Services or equivalent required.
  • Registered Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
  • Minimum 1 year recent experience in a pharmacy setting.

Responsibilities

  • Dispensing controlled drugs and maintaining stock control.
  • Conducting patient counselling and assessing pharmaceutical care needs.
  • Supporting and supervising Pharmacy Assistants and Student Pharmacy Technicians.

Are you a passionate and dedicated Pharmacy Technician looking for a flexible position?

We have an exciting opportunity for enthusiastic and dedicated Pharmacy Technicians to join our friendly pharmacy team on a bank contract.

Main duties of the job

As one of the team of Rotational Pharmacy Technicians you will have the opportunity to gain experience including the following and much more:

  • Dispensing controlled drugs using electronic registers from automated storage cabinets
  • Gaining experience in IT Systems including Ascribe, Omnicell cabinets& Prescription Tracking
  • Maintaining good stock control of medicines
  • Medicines optimisation on wards
  • Supporting and training staff

You must be a team player with the ability to work flexibly and react positively to change. Essential skills include an eye for detail, high level of accuracy and knowing the limitations of the role. You must be able to follow written procedures, work under supervision and complete tasks accurately to set deadlines.

Person Specification
Qualifications
  • NVQ level 3 in Pharmaceutical Services or National BTEC in Pharmaceutical Sciences or equivalent nationally recognised qualification plus Accredited underpinning knowledge
  • Registered Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council
  • National Accredited Checking Technician (ACT) qualification or requirement to undertake the training
  • Expert Witness/A1 NVQ Assessor Qualification or willing to undertake
  • Member of the Association of Pharmacy Technicians
Experience
  • Minimum 1 year recent experience in either a hospital pharmacy or community pharmacy setting
  • Commitment and evidence of professional updating and continuous professional development
  • Patient counselling skills - pleasant professional manner; knowledge of use of medicines and advising patients; assessing patient's pharmaceutical care needs
  • Supervisory skills to supervise Pharmacy Assistants and Student Pharmacy Technicians
Skills
  • Computer literate with good general keyboard skills for using the pharmacy computer systems, including ordering and receiving stock and rectifying stock discrepancies
  • Literate and numerate
  • Evidence of interest in new ways of working and developing specialist knowledge in a clinical area
