Job Overview

This role involves carrying out pharmaceutical technical duties primarily in the aseptic service of the pharmacy. You will provide an efficient and comprehensive pharmaceutical service to meet departmental and corporate objectives, working under supervision where indicated.

Main Responsibilities
  1. Dispense medicines following standard labelling, dispensing, and computer procedures with high dexterity, accuracy, and precision.
  2. Perform in-process accuracy checks.
  3. Record all items used in aseptic dispensing via costed issues through the Drug Management and Administration systems.
  4. Participate in daily workload management and organisation of the aseptic unit.
  5. Act as a supervisor for lower graded staff.
  6. Maintain and monitor environmental standards and conduct regular quality assessments.
  7. Ensure logs and records are completed accurately and report variances promptly.
  8. Contribute to induction and ongoing training for pharmacy staff and others as appropriate.
  9. Communicate effectively with all relevant stakeholders.
  10. Review and contribute to SOPs and worksheets, assisting in implementing changes.
  11. Participate in audits and record workload statistics.
  12. Manage stock including ordering and receipt of medicines and consumables.
  13. Support the maintenance of accurate patient records for chemotherapy and other sterile preparations.
  14. Undertake aseptic services and chemotherapy training, including competency assessments.
  15. Follow safety procedures for handling cytotoxic agents and environmental monitoring.
  16. Work in compliance with health and safety legislation, including COSHH.
  17. Collaborate with the Clinical Trials technician for medication manufacturing.

The role requires valid registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council and adherence to the Code of Ethics. You will support the day-to-day technical services and work under the supervision of the Accountable Pharmacist, supporting other pharmacy staff and trainees.

Additional Duties
  • Participate in cleaning schedules following procedures for isolators and preparation areas.
  • Assemble raw materials and equipment as per procedures.
  • Prepare cytotoxic injections using isolators and appropriate clothing.
  • Maintain detailed records of chemotherapy using specialized software and paper systems.
  • Dispense oral chemotherapy and prefilled cytotoxic medications.
  • Undertake regular competency assessments, environmental monitoring, and spill decontamination procedures.
  • Ensure safe working practices in line with legislation and procedures.
  • Liaise with Clinical Trials for medication manufacturing.
