We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic Pharmacy Technician to join our growing Medicines Management Team.
We are looking for a technician with excellent communication and people skills to work with our PCN Pharmacists. You will have the opportunity to collaborate with our team of pharmacists and technicians to provide excellent care across North Shropshire practices.
Clinical Pharmacy in General Practice is part of a transformation program to develop a new care model that delivers person-centred, coordinated care across the PCN. This model supports national policies like the Five Year Forward View and GP Forward View, aiming to better utilize primary care roles to help patients stay safe and well, reduce hospital admissions, and lessen the demand on general practice.
Pharmacy Technicians complement clinical Pharmacists, community Pharmacists, and other team members. Unlike Pharmacists, Technicians do not prescribe or make clinical decisions but work under supervision to ensure effective and efficient use of medicines. The role covers clinical, technical, and administrative tasks in a primary care setting.
The role's purpose is to lead improvements that promote safe, cost-effective prescribing practices to enhance patient care. Responsibilities include medication switching according to protocols, improving repeat prescribing processes, promoting online and repeat dispensing, and minimizing clinical risks (see attached JD and PS).
North Shropshire Primary Care Network comprises 6 GP practices serving 81,000 patients, with an additional 8,500 patients served through other services (see attached JD and PS).
The post involves leading initiatives to optimize safe, cost-effective prescribing, helping patients maximize their medication benefits through protocol-based medication switching, improving repeat prescribing, and reducing waste. You will also promote understanding of medicines optimization principles among practice teams and support national initiatives, NICE guidelines, and medicines management improvements.
This role requires a Disclosure and Barring Service check due to its nature and responsibilities.
