Job description

Walton Medical Centre has an exciting opportunity for a pharmacy technician to join our practice on a 12-month fixed-term contract. This role can be offered on a full-time or part-time basis, with flexibility on days and hours.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Supporting the reception and administration teams at our member practices with complex medication queries.
  2. Updating patient records accordingly.
  3. Supporting the GP partners on prescribing projects, cost/safety audits, and actions.
  4. Developing our prescribing systems to ensure safe, effective, and efficient prescribing within the PCN.
  5. Undertaking medicines reconciliation.
  6. Working with the dispensary team leader to review and develop repeat prescribing protocols to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
  7. Providing advice to GPs, staff, and patients on prescribing changes to support safety, quality, and cost-effectiveness.
  8. Participating in medication audits.
  9. Preparing resources and information to support rational, cost-effective prescribing.
  10. Supporting the clinical pharmacist with medication reviews, patient information leaflets, medicine awareness, and community visits as appropriate.

Our services extend beyond general practice to include extended access appointments in evenings and weekends, collaboration with external agencies for in-home services and social prescribing, and involvement in clinical research. We are part of a Primary Care Network (PCN) spanning Colchester and Tendring, including:

  • Riverside Medical Centre and Ardleigh Surgery
  • Mersea Island Medical Practice, Tiptree Medical Centre, and Rowhedge Medical Centre
  • Walton Medical Centre, Colne Medical Centre, and Wivenhoe Medical Centre

The area serves a diverse socio-economic and demographic population, offering a varied case mix. You will join an enthusiastic team of clinicians and administrators, with ongoing professional development, training support, CPD, and peer support. Your role will contribute to improving the quality of patient care across the network of practices.
