Job description

Newhall Surgery is looking for a dynamic and motivated part time Pharmacy Technician (15 to 22.5 hours per week) to join our Pharmacy Team consisting of a Senior Clinical Pharmacist and a Clinical Pharmacist.

Our ideal candidate acts within their professionalboundaries, supporting and working alongside a team of pharmacists in GeneralPractice. In this role they will be supported by a Senior Clinical Pharmacistwho will develop, manage and mentor them.

The successful applicant will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team in a patient facingrole. The purpose of the role is to lead improvements to maximise safe,cost-effective best practice in prescribing to improve the quality of patientcare. You will help patients to get the best from their medicines by switchingmedications to agreed and approved protocols, improving repeat prescribingprocesses in general practice, including promotion of repeat dispensing andonline ordering, minimising clinical risk and aiming to reduce wastedmedicines.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will provide support to general practice staff with regards toprescription and medication queries. Carry out medicine switches in line with practice and ICB agreed specific protocols reviewing patient'srecords, amending records and informing patients.Theywill help support the repeat prescriptions system promoting electronic repeatdispensing and online ordering. Carry out housekeeping whilst in patientrecords eg dose optimisation and medicines synchronisation.

Thepost holder will be the first port of call to answer and deal with anymedicines related queries from administration and reception staff plus any medicinesrelated queries from dispensary staff. The aim of which is to improve thequality of care for our patients and operational efficiencies within the PCN,so requires motivation and passion to deliver excellent service to patients within GeneralPractice.

Our clinical staff consists of 3 GP Partners, 5 GPs, 3 GP Registrars, 1 Foundation Year 2 Doctor plus a dedicated Nursing Team, Pharmacy Team, a Health & Wellbeing Coach and a Patient Care Coordinator.

We also have committed administrative, secretarial and care navigation members, plus our dedicated and professional Management Team which consists of a Business Manager, Practice Manager, Patient Services Team Leader and 2 Management Assistants.

We are a friendly Practice who believe that communication, team working, well-being and learning are vital to the success of our organisation. We have two formal 'get togethers' per year with other socials to help support our internal communication processes and the feeling of 'family' within the organisation, plus monthly training events.

The Partners are very supportive of staff and place a high value on their well-being, learning and development.

Qualifications
  • Registration with General Pharmaceutical Council as a Pharmacy Technician (GPhC)
  • BTEC/NVQ3 Pharmacy Services (or equivalent)
  • Evidence of commitment to continuing professional development
  • Enrolled in, undertaking or qualified from, an approved training pathway. For example, the Primary Care Pharmacy Educational Pathway (PCPEP) or Medicines Optimisation in Care Homes (MOCH) or courses approved by the Association of Pharmacy Technicians UK (APTUK) as meeting the requirements of the UK-wide APTUK/PCPA National Competency Framework for Primary Care Pharmacy Technicians
  • Experience working as a qualified, registered pharmacy technician
  • Experience of working within primary care
