Job description

Role: Pharmacy Technician
Location: The Wellington Hospital, London

Hours: Full-time, 37.5 hours per week Monday to Friday 09.00am-17.30pm (plus rota weekends and bank holidays)
Contract Type: Permanent
Salary: Competitive depending on experience with excellent benefits

We’re looking for a Pharmacy Technician to join our team at The Wellington Hospital, currently rated “Good” by the CQC. The Wellington covers a number of specialist units including ICU Gynaecology CCU/HDU, Cardia Treatment and digestive Health. Joining this team can give you experience and exposure to these different areas and experts within these fields.

A key member of the Pharmacy Team as such they will assist in the provision of a comprehensive pharmacy service which consistently meet the needs of all service users across the Wellington Hospital (North, South and Platinum Medical Centre sites) and affiliated services at Golder’s Green and Elstree Outpatient Centres. You will contribute to the day to day running of the Pharmacy and will report to the Senior Pharmacy Technician with support from Head Technician and/or Pharmacists.

Job Responsibilities:

The successful post holder will accurately dispense and issue prescription medicines, including controlled drugs to inpatients, outpatients, and patients offsite across the Wellington Hospital and various outpatient centres.

As an Accuracy Checking Pharmacy Technician (ACPT) the postholder will be expected to accuracy check prescriptions according to the ACPT policy. As an Omnicell user the post holder will produce and analyse stock discrepancy reports and actively promote cost-effective purchasing, distribution, storage, and stock control. In addition, the role will manage and maintain IV fluids, medical gases, and stock shortages and ensure that these are managed safely, effectively and efficiently.

The successful post holder may need to also undertake basic procurement duties and become a proficient user of the Meditech electronic health solution IT system.

The post holder will ensure that processes are delivered safely, efficiently and in a timely manner for our patients. They will also ensure implementation of procedures and be responsible for updating and reviewing policies and procedures relevant to patient services activities as well as participate in the educating and training of the team.

You will also provide support within distribution by: fulfilling stock and top up orders for the wards and theatres efficiently and accurately according to hospital policy and protocol using the Meditech IT software system for stock transfer and charging.

What you’ll bring:

Strong relationship building skills

Registration with GpHC

General knowledge of drug therapy

Experience of working within a hospital environment (essential)
