Job description

We are excited to announce an opportunity for a Pharmacy Technician to join our team at the Cheltenham Peripheral Primary Care Network (CPPCN).

CPPCN comprises 5 practices on the outskirts of Cheltenham in Gloucestershire: Leckhampton, Sixways, Cleevelands, Stoke Road, and Winchcombe. Together, we serve 54,000 patients.

We are seeking a capable candidate to enhance our existing team of 5 Clinical Pharmacists and 1 Pharmacy Technician. The role can be full-time at 37.5 hours per week or part-time with a minimum of 22.5 hours (3 days).

Main duties of the job

The Role

You will report to our Lead Clinical Pharmacist and will be required to travel between the 5 locations. Sharing your time across practices will enrich your work experience and development. We value the contribution of Pharmacy Technicians to patient care and offer flexibility to work from home when needed.

Training will be provided by our Lead Pharmacist and national bodies. You will have access to an active pharmacy network within Gloucestershire. The role involves enrolment onto the CPPE and NHS England Primary Care Pharmacy Education Pathway to develop your skills and knowledge further.

Skills & Experience

The successful candidate will be a good communicator, self-motivated, well-organized, and eager to be part of a progressive team. You should be able to advise patients, GPs, nurses, receptionists, and other healthcare professionals, including community pharmacists. Competence in IT (experience with TPP SystmOne is desirable but not essential) and readiness to use telephone and video consultations are required.

Job responsibilities
  • Undertake patient-facing and supporting roles to ensure effective medicines use through shared decision-making conversations.
  • Carry out medicines optimisation tasks, including inhaler technique checks, medication reviews, and medicines reconciliation. Use consultation skills to work with patients to ensure effective medication use.
  • Assist in delivering medicines optimisation and management schemes and patient safety audits.
  • Support medication reviews and reconciliation for new care home patients, and synchronize medicines during patient transfers, liaising with community pharmacists.
  • Provide specialist expertise to address public health and social care needs, including lifestyle advice and tackling health inequalities.
  • Take a central role in shared care protocols and liaise with specialist pharmacists for complex cases.
  • Support antimicrobial stewardship initiatives to reduce inappropriate antibiotic use.
  • Implement national prescribing policies and guidelines within GP practices and other primary care settings, including clinical audits and quality improvement measures.

  • Computer literate with the ability to use GP clinical systems (desirable) and Microsoft Office (essential).
  • Ability to analyze and interpret prescribing data.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • Organized, able to work independently or in a team, and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of data protection and confidentiality requirements.
  • Full driving license and access to a car.
Qualifications
  • Professional registration with GPhC.
  • BTEC/NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in pharmaceutical sciences.
  • Evidence of continued professional development (CPD).
Experience
  • Experience as a qualified registered pharmacy technician in primary care, community, or hospital pharmacy.

Salary: £28,000 to £34,000 per year, dependent on experience.
