Job description

Working Full time: 37.5 hours per week

To carry out a Portering function from the Pharmacy Department to all wards at The Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation. The successful applicant will be delivering medicines, some of which require additional paperwork, and act as a Receptionist, dealing with staff and patients in the main Pharmacy Department.

We are looking for an individual who can work under pressure and communicate effectively with a variety of people including Patients, Pharmacy Staff, Doctors, Nurses, and other healthcare staff.

This role is demanding and requires the post holder to be on their feet all day, managing the Dispensary and Ward Based workflow, manning the hatches and phones.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Participating in providing an efficient delivery service to and from wards and the pharmacy department at COCH.
  2. Processing stock returned from wards for recycling or destruction in line with Disposal procedures.
  3. Receiving and documenting all prescriptions/charts and ward requisitions at the dispensary reception.
  4. Filing outpatient prescriptions, discharge notifications, ward requisitions, and faxed requests according to departmental policy.

The Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust provides services to West Cheshire and Welsh patients covered by Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board. Its services are provided from three locations:

  • The Countess of Chester Hospital: 438 general and acute beds
  • Ellesmere Port Hospital: 56 beds for rehabilitation, intermediate, and outpatient services
  • Tarporley War Memorial Hospital: community services for the local rural population

The Trust employs over 5,916 staff and provides a range of services including emergency, elective, primary care, and obstetric services to a population of approximately 411,000 residents.

Recruitment is based on competence and values. Applicants will need to pay for their DBS check, with costs deducted from their salary over three months. Enrolling in the DBS Update Service is encouraged, with an annual fee of £16.
