Job description

Following the retirement of the existing postholder, there is an exciting opportunity to join the Senior Pharmacy Management Team at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust for the above role.

Medicines safety and governance are mission critical to every aspect of patient care, making the strategic importance of this role hugely significant. Developing, leading, and delivering the Medicines Safety Strategy at STH is a key responsibility. The role involves working with senior consultants, governance leads across the organisation and ICS, and all staff groups within Pharmacy, requiring an exceptional candidate.

Acting as Professional Secretary to the Trust’s Medicines Safety Group, the ideal candidate will possess excellent time management, critical analysis, incident investigation, action plan development, and report writing skills. A governance-focused yet practical medicines safety mindset is essential.

Main duties of the job
  1. Leading the Medicines Safety agenda at a Trust level.
  2. Ensuring STH compliance with complex legal and statutory requirements around medicines.
  3. Acting as lead author for the Trust-wide Medicines Code.
  4. Overseeing medicines recalls, patient safety alerts, and action plan development.
  5. Developing and disseminating medicines safety bulletins and training on medicines safety issues.
  6. Leading the development and maintenance of Pharmacy Risk Register entries, incident/complaint responses, and action plans.
  7. Overseeing the Clinical Audit Programme and representing Pharmacy on the Safety and Risk Forum.
  8. Leading the Pharmacy Quality Improvement programme.
  9. Supporting the Chief Pharmacist in implementing policies and procedures related to medicines safety across the organisation.
  10. Providing management support to approximately 9 WTE staff.
