Job summary

Bank Pharmacy Assistant at Nuffield Health Derby Hospital is a part-time, bank shift role within the Pharmacy department. You will support the pharmacy team by stocking, procurement, receiving deliveries, and assisting with dispensing under supervision. Some Saturday work is required.

The role offers a supportive environment under a Pharmacist, with training and SOPs guiding daily tasks and patient care pathways. Salary is up to £13 per hour depending on experience and timing.

Responsibilities

Assist Pharmacy team to deliver an efficient pharmacy service under Pharmacist supervision
Monitor stock levels and assist with procurement using electronic systems
Receive goods, check against orders, raise issues as needed
Assist with dispensing medicines under supervision and accuracy checks
Provide basic customer advice and assist with dispensing for out-of-hours

To assist the Pharmacy team by providing pharmacy support to deliver an efficient Pharmacy service. All tasks will be carried out under the supervision of a Pharmacist following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

As a Bank Pharmacy Assistant you will;

To monitor stock levels within the Pharmacy department to maintain appropriate stock levels
To assist with the procurement of pharmaceutical stock for the pharmacy and other departments using appropriate electronic systems
To receive goods in appropriately checking against purchase orders/delivery notes, dealing with issues/anomalies as they arise and escalating appropriately
To review invoice queries as appropriate
To monitor stock levels within the pharmacy department
To monitor stock levels in designated ward/department areas by carrying out stock top ups
To assist with supplying stock to other departments
To participate in pharmacy and departmental stock takes
To store all pharmaceutical products appropriately maintaining security and correct environmental conditions
To carry out expiry date checking of pharmaceutical stock in designated areas and record appropriately
To dispose of medicines in accordance with statutory requirements
To manage the stock supply of emergency drugs in accordance with local resuscitation polices
To assemble monthly stock evaluation reports

Dispensary and Patient Services

To assist in the dispensing of medicines accurately selecting the correct quantity of medicine required and assembling, labelling and processing them in a safe, efficient and timely manner
To carry out final accuracy check on dispensed items within scope of qualification and experience
To provide basic advice to customers under the supervision of the Pharmacist, understanding when to refer on appropriately
To assemble pre-packed or over- labelled batches of medicines for out of hours dispensing

Team support

To provide general administrative support to the department

To clean and restore equipment and work areas, leaving them in a suitable condition for future use.
To maintain appropriate levels of Pharmacy consumable items within the department e.g. cartons, bags, labels etc.
To identify any problems within work areas, including equipment, pharmacy orders, medicines, prescriptions, signed orders and escalating appropriately.
To assist with storing all documentation within recommendations for the retention of pharmacy records
To assist with workplace audits as required by the Pharmacy Manager
To follow the correct procedures and any relevant policies and guidelines at all times including all aspects of the Infection Prevention and Control policy and guidelines.

Educational Qualifications – Essential:

Good standard of general education, with proven literacy and numeracy.

Level 2 NVQ Certificate in Pharmacy Service Skills / GPhC recognised equivalent qualification or ability to work towards qualification which would be commenced within 3 months of employment and completed within agreed timescale

4 GCSEs including English, Maths and a Science or equivalent.

Experience, Knowledge & Expertise – Essential
