Job description


An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and self-motivated pharmacist to join the Pharmacy Clinical Trials Team as a Band 6 Clinical Trials Pharmacist.

The post holder will be a member of both pharmacy clinical trials and R&D teams at Hampshire Hospital NHS Foundation trust. They will work with both teams to ensure the smooth running of clinical trials delivered at HHFT with the support of the Lead Clinical Trials Pharmacist.

You will be responsible for creating and maintaining bespoke pharmacy specific documentation for each trial. This involves reviewing sponsor documents and collaborating with sponsors, contract research organisations (CROs) and research teams. These bespoke documents serve as instructions for anyone involved in the receipt, storage, dispensing, labelling, accountability, and destruction of IMPs for the trial. A high level of attention to detail is essential as requirements of the sponsor and good clinical practice (GCP) must be met.

The successful candidate will be provided with the support of a well-established team, along with opportunities to develop and improve their

· Support for the day-to-day management of the clinical trials service, monitoring key quality and performance indicators and service pressures, recommending and implementing actions to address them.

· Maintaining or improving effective lines of communication between the Pharmacy and Research teams

· To supervise, and delegate work to, junior staff under the direction of the appropriate pharmacist in charge, to ensure that professional, legal and procedural standards are met.

· To act as a deputy for the pharmacist in charge of the section during their absence, to ensure continuity of service.

· To participate in the emergency duty arrangements, which include implementation of defective drug recall procedures, in accordance with the agreement reached with the Trust. This is to ensure that pharmaceutical advice and service is available in an emergency outside pharmacy opening hours.

· To respond in a timely manner to questions about medicines from healthcare professionals (both within and outside the hospital). To provide evaluated answers to these queries using a range of resources including electronic databases, books, journals etc.

· To support the development, delivery and evaluation of the Clinical Trials Pharmacy Service provided to the Research Department.

· To deputise for the Lead Pharmacist supporting the development, delivery and evaluation of the clinical trials pharmacy service for Hampshire Hospitals, ensuring the requirements of pharmacy customers are met in accordance with pharmaceutical legislation, national guidance and departmental objectives.

· To supervise people to ensure the effective operation of the Services provided to the Research Department.

· To ensure that the highest standards of clinical care are continuously delivered

· This post has a training element and the post holder will provide a mentoring and training role for new and junior staff.

· To participate in any 7-day shift pattern as required by the service which may include weekend and Bank Holiday rotas
