Experienced Pharmacist - Dispensing Accuracy Checker

Band: 5 or 6 (Dependent on experience)Location: NHS Trust (Various UK Locations)Contract Type: Locum Hours: Full-time / Part-time / Monday to Friday (occasional weekends)

Job Summary

We are seeking a GPhC-registered Pharmacist with NHS experience to support our dispensary services. The primary responsibility will be to clinically screen and accuracy-check dispensed items, ensuring safe and effective supply of medicines to patients. This is an ongoing requirement to support high-volume dispensary operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform clinical screening of prescriptions to ensure appropriateness, legality, and safety.
  • Conduct final accuracy checks on dispensed items in accordance with NHS and GPhC standards.
  • Liaise with prescribers and pharmacy technicians to resolve prescription queries.
  • Ensure compliance with local SOPs, controlled drug regulations, and medicines legislation.
  • Support the training and supervision of junior staff and pre-registration trainees.
  • Maintain accurate records and contribute to audit and quality assurance processes.
? Essential Requirements
  • GPhC registration as a Pharmacist.
  • Minimum 6 months of UK hospital or NHS dispensary experience.
  • Strong understanding of dispensary workflows, clinical screening, and accuracy checking.
  • Excellent attention to detail and communication skills.
Desirable Skills
  • Experience with JAC, EPMA, or other NHS pharmacy systems.
  • Familiarity with high-cost drugs, TTOs, and outpatient dispensing.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment.
