Job Description:
- An exciting opportunity has arisen for an exceptional senior political communicator to join the client location's industry-leading Policy and Public Affairs team and lead work to position the company as a strategic partner during a critical time for healthcare and life sciences.
- This strategic, externally-facing role involves stakeholder engagement with UK Government, Parliament, and healthcare policymakers, requiring political and commercial acumen.
- The post holder will promote the UK Vision for Growth and Client’s Purpose Blueprint by engaging with policymakers and influencers to foster a pro-patient, pro-innovation environment and build trust in the client.
The post holder will:
- Lead development and execution of Policy and Public Affairs campaigns supporting a UK life sciences ecosystem that promotes innovation and safeguards the client’s license to operate.
- Engage externally and build relationships with UK Government, Parliament, and the broader policymaking community to support strategic priorities.
- Provide strategic insights and counsel to business leaders on political and healthcare issues, focusing on impactful areas.
- Develop innovative ideas and messaging about the future of UK healthcare and life sciences.
- Advise senior business leaders on the healthcare and life sciences policy environment.
Key accountabilities:
- Coordinate work with the UK Policy and Public Affairs team.
- Collaborate with various parts of the client’s business to develop policy frameworks.
- Work with Communications, Global Health, and Patient Advocacy teams for integrated external engagement.
- Develop policy positions supporting a favorable medicines access environment.
- Build advocacy among stakeholders including government, NHS, DHSC, DSIT, Parliamentarians, patient groups, think tanks, trade associations, and scientific communities.
- Keep management and global colleagues informed of policy developments and activities.
Skills, Knowledge, Qualifications, and Experience (Essential):
- Passion for politics and public policy to create societal benefits.
- Interest in societal, political, and public policy themes shaping UK and global affairs.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Experience working within a matrix structure and influencing internal pathways.
- Strategic counsel experience with senior leaders in business, politics, or healthcare.
- Proactive, self-motivated, with minimal supervision.
- Strong influencing and negotiating skills.
- Compliance with policies and laws, especially regarding interactions with government officials.
- Knowledge of UK healthcare and business policy systems.
- Experience in public policy from politics, healthcare, civil service, think tanks, or industry.
- Extensive network within UK policy and political landscape.
- Understanding of communication channels to shape organizational reputation.
- Analytical and critical thinking skills for policy development.
- Experience with multi-stakeholder platforms and external agencies.
