Job summary

Boehringer Ingelheim UK is seeking an Automation Engineer to maintain and improve site automation technologies, including production equipment and building management systems. The role blends hands-on troubleshooting with project support across design, programming and lifecycle management of control systems.

Based in Pirbright, the fixed-term contract runs until 31 December 2027. You will work with operations, maintenance, validation and IT to ensure compliant, reliable systems and support

Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience with industrial automation systems in pharma or regulated environments.
  • Experience with lifecycle activities: design, implementation, troubleshooting, upgrades and documentation.
  • Knowledge of GAMP5 and regulatory compliance practices.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and troubleshoot automation systems (production and building automation) to ensure reliability and minimize downtime, with documentation kept up to date.
  • Deliver automation support for engineering and maintenance projects, including design, programming and implementation of control systems.
  • Lead or contribute to automation projects and continuous improvement, coordinating stakeholders and managing deliverables.
  • Ensure systems operate compliantly by following internal procedures and regulatory requirements, supporting audits and corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with operations, maintenance, engineering, validation, IT and external vendors to support performance and project execution.
  • Evaluate and implement new technologies and share knowledge within the team.
